Palisade, MN (KROC-AM News)- Two people are dead and five people, including a child and teenager, are fighting for their lives following a crash in northern Minnesota

Four vehicles were involved. The State Patrol responded to the deadly crash around 5:15 on Friday afternoon. 

The deadly crash happened at the intersection of Hwy. 169 and Aitkin County Rd. 3, which is about 45 miles northeast of Brainerd.

A suburban pulling a trailer eastbound on County Rd. 3 failed to stop for the stop sign when it entered the intersection with Hwy. 169. It was then struck by a different SUV that was traveling north on Hwy. 169, the state crash report says. 

The collision with the suburban caused the northbound SUV to strike a waiting Jeep and pick-up truck, which were facing west while waiting to enter the intersection, according to the State Patrol.

A man and woman from Minnetonka riding in the suburban were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as 61-year-old Elizabeth Jane Baldwin and 92-year-old Marlo Dean Baldwin. 

61-year-old Roger John Walker of Minnetonka was driving the SUV. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Six people were in the northbound SUV, which was driven by 44-year-old Lisa Mae Melberg of Zimmerman. 

Melberg, 18-year-old Robert John Davidson, 11-year-old Carly Ann Melberg and 14-year-old Haley Rae Melberg, all of whom are also from Zimmerman, suffered life-threatening injuries.

The two other northbound SUV occupants, identified as 18-year-old Ally Mae Melberg of Zimmerman and 15-year-old Daisie Mae Melberg of Princeton, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. 

The drivers of the Jeep and pick-up truck were not injured. The Minnetonka residents who died in the crash were not buckled up, according to the State Patrol. 

Alcohol was not involved in the deadly crash, the state crash report says.
