State Patrol Identifies 71-Year-Old Victim of Fatal Red Wing Crash

Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News)- The State Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred in Red Wing.

First responders were called to the fatal incident around 2:20 Monday afternoon. A single vehicle was involved in the fatality.

The deadly crash occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 61 and 7th St., near the Juvenile Corrections Facility. 

The driver of an SUV was attempting to turn onto northbound Highway 61 when the vehicle went into the median and crashed through a guardrail before rolling onto its side, according to the State Patrol. 

Hwy. 61 was closed for about four hours following the crash.

An updated state crash report identifies the SUV driver as 71-year-old Michael Thomas Murphy. The State Patrol says the Red Wing man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Murphy was buckled up and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the state crash report says. He was the only person in the vehicle. 

The Red Wing Police Department and Red Wing Fire and Ambulance also responded to the crash.
