AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) — An Austin area man died in a kitchen fire Thursday.

Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy has identified the victim as 58-year-old Michael Langan.

The Mower County Sheriff's Office says Langan's 19-year-old son Dakota called 911 around 7:30 p.m. to report the fire. McCoy says firefighters and sheriff's deputies arrived to see Dakota trying to escape through a bedroom window. Authorities broke more glass in the window and pulled him out. He was taken to Mayo Clinic-Austin with apparent smoke inhalation and minor injuries from trying to get out the window.

The victim would have turned 59 Friday.
