Update: Son Accused of Fatally Shooting Father at Minnesota Hunting Cabin 

Pine County MN (KROC-AM News)- One man is in custody following a fatal shooting in rural Minnesota

That’s according to a news release issued by the Pine County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the report of a shooting on Friday night. 

The reported gunfire occurred in the 57000 block of Barn Springs Rd. in the east-central Minnesota county. A witness reported hearing the shooting and fleeing for safety, the news release says.

Upon arriving at the scene deputies found a man who was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.

Suspected Gunman Arrested Following Fatal Shooting in Rural Minnesota's Pine County

Deputies identified the suspected shooter as 31-year-old Kirk Edward Hazlett III. Authorities found him shortly after the shooting and took him into custody. 

Hazlett is currently being held at the Pine County Detention Center in Pine City. Jail records indicate he was booked Friday on suspicion of second-degree murder

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the Pine County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation of the deadly shooting. Authorities have not yet said if the apparent homicide was targeted or a random act.

 

The victim’s name will be released pending family notification and a preliminary autopsy. More information is expected to be released once charges are filed, the news release says.
