New Independence Township, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota truck driver was killed Saturday in a fiery crash in the Duluth area.

The State Patrol says 31-year-old Xavier Henson of Grand Rapids was driving a tanker truck transporting flammable material north on Highway 33 when he failed to negotiate a curve near the junction with Highway 53. The truck then left the road and overturned before the truck and the contents of the tanker trailer caught fire.

The resulting fire sent a thick plume of black smoke into the sky and forced traffic to detour around the crash site. It was reported shortly before 1 PM about 10 miles northeast of Duluth.
