Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A sprinkler system is credited with keeping a fire contained at the Waste Management Transfer Station in Rochester.

The fire was reported around 9:50 Sunday night and the responding Rochester Fire Department crews found smoke coming from the garbage transfer station near the Rochester Airport when they arrived at the scene. After initially requesting a second alarm response to the blaze, the firefighters discovered the sprinkler system had activated and kept the fire under control.

An aerial ladder was deployed to put water on areas that continued to smolder in the facility. A dollar loss was not included in the news release concerning the incident but officials indicated there was noticeable heat and smoke damage on the walls inside the transfer station.
