Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Christmas Eve fire forced a Rochester family to spend the holiday elsewhere.

The fire was reported an hour before the Rochester Fire Department conducted an annual somber ceremony.

The 911 call was made around 8:00 AM from 1659 8 ½ Ave SE.

Firefighters found the fire in the basement and it was extinguished in less than 10 minutes.

RFD. says there was fire damage to one interior room and smoke and water damage occurred throughout the structure. The damage is estimated at $50,000.

RFD says there were three adults, three children, and a dog in the home at the time and they were able to escape. Two of the occupants were assessed for light smoke inhalation at the scene.

The local American Red Cross is assisting the family.
