
First Degree Murder Indictment in Winona Case
Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Winona County Grand Jury has returned a first-degree murder indictment in the case of a drive-by shooting this summer that claimed the life of a well-known Minnesota Bluegrass musician.
The indictment charges 49-year-old Ricky Waiters with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder, along with six other felony counts, including second degree murder, attempted murder, and assault.
He was accused of opening fire on a group of people gathered outside a Winona bar in the early morning hours of July 27th. One man was shot in the leg, while 53-year-old Charles Johnson suffered a fatal chest wound.
Following the deadly shooting, investigators searched Waiters home and car and found a .40 caliber handgun and a half dozen spent shell casings inside his vehicle.
