Winona Man Gets Probation For Rollingstone Shootings
Rollingstone, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the men convicted for a series of shootings in a small southeastern Minnesota town last year has been sentenced to probation.
Probation Ordered in Rollingstone Shooting Case
Twenty-one-year-old Kimari Jatovian Jordan appeared before a judge in Winona County court this morning and was ordered to serve five years on probation. The Winona man was also given a 216-day jail sentence, but that was fully satisfied through credit for the time he had already spent in jail.
Gunfire Struck Multiple Homes
According to court documents, the first shooting was reported in the Winona County town of Rollingstone around 11:30 p.m. on May 24, 2025. Winona County deputies reported that a man told them he was inside his home with his wife and two children watching TV when he heard three gunshots, and one of the bullets entered the living room of their home.
The criminal complaint against Jordan says deputies located three spent shell casings on the road in front of the house and two bullet holes in the home's exterior. Two more bullet holes were discovered in a neighboring house, which was vacant at the time.
Investigators Say Homes Were Randomly Targeted
While investigating the first shooting, the criminal complaint says deputies learned that bullets also struck a residence a few blocks away. The court document says a spent shell casing was found in the road, and bullet holes were later discovered in the attached garage. The two occupants of the house told deputies they noticed a vehicle driving slowly past and then heard two loud bangs.
The criminal complaint says no one was injured in the shootings and that it appeared the homes struck by gunfire were selected at random.
It also says Jordan was identified as a suspect after investigators interviewed a Winona woman who had attended a quinceañera in Rollingstone on the night of the shootings. She was accompanied by her boyfriend, her three daughters, and her eldest daughter's boyfriend.
Juvenile Provided Key Information
According to the charges, one of the juveniles told investigators that the woman's boyfriend had taken a gun from his backpack and fired it in the direction of the houses. The boyfriend was identified as 30-year-old Damien Lamont Smith Jr. of Winona. The same witness told investigators that Jordan also fired a gun through the open window of their vehicle.
Alford Plea Resolved Criminal Case
Jordan entered an Alford plea to a charge of drive-by shooting involving an unoccupied building after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors in April. An Alford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that prosecutors have sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction.
The other defendant entered into a similar plea agreement last month and admitted to the same charge. Smith is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
