Rochester Man Accused of Fleeing Deputies at High Speed in Rochester Neighborhood

22-year-old Bilaal Yaxye Mohamed is charged with one count of felony fleeing, gross misdemeanor reckless driving and misdemeanor driving without insurance.

The charges say an Olmsted County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the  4800 block of 55th St. NW got an automatic license plate reader hit on a vehicle with expired registration.

The deputy also learned that  Mohamed, who is the vehicle’s registered owner, had a revoked driving status, the complaint says.

The deputy turned around to follow and Mohamed accelerated at a high rate of speed, continuing westbound and ran a stop sign at the intersection of 55th St. and 50th Ave. NW, the charges say.

A second deputy was coming from the west to join the pursuit. The complaint states Mohamed nearly hit that deputy’s squad car.

Law enforcement lost sight of Mohamed when he turned into a neighborhood along 59th Ave. NW.

Families who were outside their homes with children reported seeing the suspect vehicle. The complaint alleges Mohamed was traveling at least 80 mph in the 45 mph zone on 55th St. NW.

Deputies then went to Mohamed’s home where they took him into custody. The complainant says Mohamed admitted to driving the vehicle.

Mohammed made his first court appearance Monday morning. He was released without bail and is due back in court next month.
