Fleeing Driver Smashes into Police Cars Before Being Captured in Faribault

Faribault, MN (KROC-AM News)- A motorist is expected to face multiple charges for an alleged police chase in Faribault.

A news release issued by the Faribault Police Department says the ordeal began shortly after 6:00 Monday evening, when officers responded to the report of a reckless driver. 

The motorist was reportedly stopping the middle of the street for no reason and nearly caused a head-on collision, police say.

Faribault Police: Impaired & Reckless Driver Smashed into Two Squad Cars During Pursuit

Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of 9th Ave. SW and Spring Rd driving recklessly. The vehicle fled northbound on 9th Ave. at a high rate of speed after officers attempted a traffic stop, the news release says. 

Officers pursued the vehicle through a neighborhood area for several minutes. 

Police say two squad cars were struck during the pursuit. No officer injuries were reported. 

Disabling Collision Ends Police Chase

The pursuit was ended by what the news release describes as a “disabling collision” in the 800 block of Spring Rd. The nature of the collision is not described in the news release. 

Police took the driver into custody on suspicion of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, third-degree DWI, reckless driving, obstructing the legal process and leaving the scene of an accident. 

The driver was subsequently transported to a hospital due to medical concerns and suspected impairment, the news release says. 

Police have not released the name of the suspect.
