La Crosse, MN (KROC-AM News) - The updated Spring Flooding Outlook from the National Weather Service indicates there has been a slight lowering of the risk for major flooding on the Mississippi River in southeastern Minnesota.

The slight reduction is mainly due to below-normal precipitation since the first Flood Outlook of the season was issued two weeks ago, and the overall flood risk along the Upper Mississippi River continues to be well above normal. The report notes soil moisture levels remain high and the long-range forecast for the first half of March found the odds favor both above-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation.

The updated forecast modestly lowers the potential for major flooding along the Mississippi River in southeastern Minnesota but the risk remains above 60-percent at Wabasha, Winona, and La Crosse with Winona facing a 66-percent risk. The chances of moderate flooding are above 90-percent in those same communities and are listed that over 95-percent at Winona and La Crosse.
