Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A longtime Rochester lawmaker died earlier this week.

An obituary posted by the Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home says Dave Bishop passed away on August 3rd. He was 91 years old.

Bishop came to Rochester in 1954 after his graduation from the Cornell University Law School and became a partner in a local law firm. He later moved into the real estate business before launching his political career in 1982. Bishop ran as a Republican and was elected to represent Rochester in the Minnesota House, which he did for the next two decades until his retirement from the state legislature in 2002.

As a lawmaker, Bishop was remembered for his many bipartisan efforts to forge compromises on important pieces of legislation. He later authored a book that was published in 2015 that was titled, Finding Common Ground-The Art of Legislating in an Age of Gridlock.

His obituary did not include any information concerning funeral arrangements.
