Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Two people were transported to St. Marys Hospital for further treatment and two others were treated at the scene of a house fire in Rochester Sunday afternoon.

The Rochester Fire Department dispatched firefighters to 3116 Oxford Lane Northwest around 12:15 PM after receiving reports of a fire in the basement of the home and a person inside who was unable to breathe. By the time the first firefighters arrived at the scene, all of the home’s occupants were outside and heavy smoke was coming from both levels of the split-level residence.

The firefighters first applied water from the outside to knock down the flames before entering the house and extinguishing the flames. They then had to tear down walls and ceilings to completely put out the fire. There was fire, smoke, and water damage throughout the home. A preliminary estimate put the loss at around $180,000. The cause is under investigation.

The Fire Department report indicates a total of 15 people have been displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
