Crush Koopas and Chlidhood Cancer at 6th Annual MarioKart Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota
Downtown Rochester, Minnesota is once again THE place to be to crush Koopas and childhood cancer. Super Herber Bros Foundation is bringing back its Mariokart Tournament for the 6th year with the goal to help raise funds for cancer research, cancer survivors and their families, as well as scholarships for pediatric nursing.
Only 4% of Federal Research Dollars Go To Childhood Cancer
I always scratch my head in wonder when I see the statistic that shows only 4% of federal research dollars going to childhood cancer. The confusion is even greater when you know personally know a child that has heard the devastating "cancer" diagnosis. For families, panic sets in as well because it is a known fact that 20% of families go bankrupt as a result of the diagnosis.
I know it is hard to grasp those numbers above and to fully picture the impact that the word "cancer" has on a family. Maybe this will help...
A few weeks before I graduated high school, my sister was in the most pain that I had ever witnessed in my life. I was standing with friends on the stairs in my house all dressed up for a fancy Senior Year celebration and she was screaming in her room. I went to the dance and my mom took my sister to the hospital. The next few days were a blur as we learned that she had leukemia and she was rushed to a hospital about 2 hours away from our home. The whirlwind of hospital smells, medication, and life with cancer was our new reality, along with several garbage bags of bills that continued to pile up in our living room. Garbage bags of bills. To know that bills are sitting in envelopes that can't be paid, and sometimes you aren't even sure what the bills are for, it is overwhelming.
Cancer is a horrible experience for families everywhere but your registration in the Mariokart tournament can help. Plus, someone is going to be the lucky winner and take home a free Nintendo Switch. That could be you!

Why Was The Mariokart Tournament Started in Rochester?
We are the Herber family and definitely no strangers to the medical realm. Dad (Andy) works as a Physician Assistant in Hospital Medicine at Mayo Clinic, and Mom (Becky) is Master level trained in Psychology and a superstar medical mom. Each of our three sons have been diagnosed with complex medical problems including epilepsy, precocious puberty, childhood cancer, and anaphylactic food allergies. We have been riding the roller coaster for years and have been inspired by our resilient children and not to mention the many families traveling a similar path that we have met along the way. Video games have been a mainstay of happiness for our boys no matter the circumstance, hence we started the Super Herber Bros Foundation with the goal to give back by helping children and their families traveling a similar path.
