Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Gas prices have fallen to under $3 per gallon at some stations in Rochester

The website GasBuddy shows three Rochester gas stations now offering prices under $3 per gallon of unleaded. The lowest reported total Thursday morning was $2.94.

Triple-A Minnesota says Rochester’s average price per gallon of unleaded is still over $3.00 at $3.08, which is under the statewide average of $3.16. The average price per gallon in Rochester at this time last year was $3.15.

Rochester isn’t the only southeast Minnesota community to see gas prices fall under $3 per gallon of unleaded. Triple A figures show the average price per gallon is $2.85 per gallon in Winona County and $2.91 per gallon in Wabasha County

GasBuddy says the cheapest price per gallon in Minnesota is $2.52 at multiple gas stations in Hastings. The nationwide average price per gallon is $3.23.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
