Gas Smell Prompts Evacuation of Rochester School
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Concerns about a possible natural gas leak led to the evacuation of a Rochester Middle School this afternoon.
The students and staff at John Adams Middle School were ordered out of the building around 2 p.m. after the strong odor of natural gas was detected in the school. The Rochester Fire Department responded to the scene and the all-clear was announced around 2:20 p.m., allowing students to return to class and finish out the regular school day.
A spokesperson for the Rochester School District says it appears a problem with a generator was the source of the gas odor and the generator has been taken off-line repairs.
Classes at John Adams will resume on a normal schedule tomorrow morning.
