Men's Hockey:  Gophers Win In Overtime Over Ohio State 5-4

Minneapolis, MN (Learfield)  --  The Minnesota men's hockey team has opened Big Ten conference play with a sweep of Ohio State.

The Golden Gophers won in overtime for a second straight night Saturday, edging the Buckeyes 5-4 on Leon Bristedt's winning goal.  Tyler Sheehy had two goals for the first time in his career and the Gophers out-shot the visitors 41-36.  Justin Kloos had four points, with three assists and one goal.  Michael Brodzinski scored Minnesota's other goal.  

The Gophers wrap up the first half of the season with a Big Ten road series at Michigan next weekend.

Women's Hockey:  Gophers Swept For First Time In 5 Years 3-1

Madison, WI (Learfield)  --  A 3-1 win by the Wisconsin women's hockey team completes the first sweep by an opponent of the powerful Minnesota program in five years.

The Badgers (18-0) got strong play by goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens, who stopped 23 shots.  Sophomore Annie Pankowski's two goals led the Wisconsin offense.  

Minnesota came in as the defending national champions and the top scoring team in the country.  Sarah Potomak cut the lead to one goal in the third period, but Minnesota wasn't able to tie the score.  

Minnesota (15-3) takes on St. Cloud State Friday in the 2015 U-S Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Faceoff Classic.
