EAST LANSING, Mich. (GopherSports.com) – Jack Glover notched his first career multi-goal game and Justin Kloos tallied three assists to reach 100-career points as the No. 17 Gopher Hockey program picked up a 4-2 win at Michigan State on Friday, clinching a first-round bye at the upcoming Big Ten tournament.

Glover, who entered the weekend with one goal in 52 career games, scored twice for the Maroon & Gold including a win-sealing empty netter while the Gophers also picked up goals from Tommy Novak and Taylor Cammarata.

For the sixth-time this season, Minnesota (18-14-0 overall, 13-4-0-0 Big Ten) rallied from an early deficit and remains on top of the Big Ten standings with 39 points – four points ahead of Michigan and seven points ahead of Penn State.

After the Spartans (9-21-3, 5-11-1-0) struck first with a goal from Matt DeBlouw at 4:37 of the first period, Glover popped in a rebound at 16:16 to send the teams into the opening intermission tied at 1-1. Novak set up the goal while Nick Seeler added his first of two assists on the night.

Taylor Cammarata claimed a lead for the Maroon & Gold when he deflected in a Michael Brodzinski shot from the point at 7:26 of the second period for his fifth goal of the season. Kloos also added an assist on the goal – his first of three-straight for Minnesota – although the Spartans answered back less than a minute later when Mackenzie MacEachern scored at 8:27 of the second stanza.

Novak sent in the eventual game winner after exiting the penalty box and joining an offensive rush. The rookie’s fifth goal of the season came at 12:51 of the third period off assists from Kloos and Hudson Fasching. Seeler and Kloos then set up Glover’s empty-net goal at 19:45 to cap the win with Kloos reclaiming the team scoring lead with a career-best 36 points on the season (14 goals, 22 assists) and Seeler ending the night with a career-best nine assists on the year (his first with Minnesota after playing two years in Omaha).

In goal, Eric Schierhorn moved to 18-14-0 in his rookie campaign for the Gophers, making 18 saves – none bigger than a shorthanded breakaway poke check on MacEachern in the opening minutes of the third period.

Minnesota outshot the Spartans 28-20 in the win.

The Gophers close out their final regular-season road trip of the year on Saturday in East Lansing at 6 p.m. CT.
