COLUMBUS, Ohio (GopherSports.com) – The No. 4/5 Gopher Hockey program scored six power-play goals to pick up a thrilling 6-5 win at No. 12/13 Ohio State on Friday night at Value City Arena.

Minnesota (18-8-2 overall, 9-3-0-0 Big Ten) went 6-for-10 on the power play with two goals from Vinni

while Brent Gates Jr., Justin Kloos, Jake Bischoff and Tyler Sheehy each added a goal of their own in the victory. Steve Johnson tallied a career-high three assists while Kloos and Sheehy each added two assists to their power-play goals.

“It was a big win for us. We were down some bodies and had to mix and match our lines a bit all night,” Minnesota head coach Don Lucia said. “It was one of those games we felt like we were never out of it, and the power play got humming when we needed it to. It was just one of those nights that pucks were going in.”

Ohio State (14-8-6, 5-6-1-1) jumped out to a three-goal lead, but the Maroon & Gold power play continued to chip away at the lead all night.

Bischoff’s game-winning goal at 15:34 of the third period gave Minnesota its first lead of the night, and the Gophers were able to weather a late push by the Buckeyes to take over sole possession of first place in the Big Ten Conference.

Eric Schierhorn picked up his Big Ten-leading 18th win of the season with 17 saves while the Gophers outshot Ohio State 37-22 in the victory.

The Maroon & Gold return to action next weekend with a Big Ten series at Penn State on Big Ten Network and 1500 ESPN. Tickets for the 2016-17 season are available at MyGopherSports.com or by calling 1-800-U-Gopher.
