Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A 23-year-old Rochester man has entered a guilty plea for a robbery that occurred in a popular park in the city nearly three years ago.

He was one of three people charged in the case and entered a guilty plea on Monday, the day his trial was supposed to start . 

Charges against one of the defendants were dismissed about three months after the robbery. Another defendant entered a guilty plea.

Rochester Man Pleads Guilty in Park Robbery Case

Court documents allege Munasar Mohamed and the two others punched and choked an Oronoco man then took his wallet.

It happened  on a walking path near the intersection of 7th St. Northeast and East Silver Lake Dr. NE on June 2 of 2023. 

An officer responding to the reported robbery and assault saw and arrested the three men shortly after.

Mohamed was identified as one of the suspects and was charged with aggravated first-degree robbery and simple robbery. 

Plea Deal Calls for Stayed Prison Sentence

Under the terms of the agreement, Mohamed agreed to plead guilty to an amended aiding and abetting simple robbery charge. 

In exchange, the prosecution will dismiss the remaining count and recommend a five-year stayed prison sentence pending pre sentencing investigation, according to the court document. 

Mohamed is scheduled to be sentenced in May. 

The other man convicted in the case, identified as 25-year-old Mohamed Mohamed of Stewartville was convicted of simple robbery in 2024 and served a 33-month prison sentence.
