Como Zoo Heartbroken Over Death of Beloved Animal

Located in the heart of Como Park is one of the oldest zoos in Minnesota - Como Park Zoo & Conservatory.  It is home to about 1,700 animals and has become very popular among families thanks to its free admission.  Sadly, one of the animals fans have enjoyed seeing since it was born in 2017 has passed away.

We’re heartbroken to share that Nyati, our western lowland gorilla born at Como in 2017, has passed away following a long and courageous medical journey. Nyati faced serious health challenges from a young age, and her care has been a testament to the dedication and compassion of our team. - Como Park Zoo & Conservatory Facebook Page

What Serious Health Challenges Did Nyati, The Gorilla, Have?

According to Como Zoo's website, Nyati was diagnosed with a parasitic infection in 2020.  Unfortunately, this infection caused permanent lesions in Nyati's brain and made movement, coordination, and motor function a daily challenge.

Nyati has been seen by specialists from across the country over the years.  To help her with daily care, physical therapy, medications, and even custom habitat modifications were created.  Overall, her comfort and well-being were the focus of the team the past 5 years.  Sadly, her health continued to decline these past few months.

Learn more about Nyati and read some of the tributes that have been left for this well-loved animal at the Como Zoo website.
