Heavy Smoke Leaves Rochester Home Uninhabitable
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a house fire Thursday afternoon but the home was still left uninhabitable because of smoke damage.
A news release says the fire was reported in the home at 404 19th Avenue Southwest just before 4:45 PM and the responding fire crew was at the site within 3 minutes. The homeowner indicated all four occupants had gotten out safely but the fate of five cats was unknown.
The report says the firefighters encountered thick smoke but were able to use a chemical fire extinguisher to put out the flames. The fire was confined to an upstairs bedroom, but extensive smoke damage occurred throughout the first level of the home.
The five missing cats were eventually located and were unharmed.
