Impacts of the project include potential traffic delays caused by lane closures. Some turns once available to motorists at one of the intersections along the highway are no longer allowed.
MnDOT says crews will also spend the construction season improving part of the highway’s surface, adding a safety measure in the median and upgrading the safety of an overpass.
Busy Construction Season Begins on Hwy. 14 West of Rochester
Orange cones are now in place marking left-lane closures in both directions along Hwy. 14 between 260th Ave. and 200th Ave, which is between the eastern outskirts of Kasson and western Dodge Center.
Single-lane traffic will be in place on that stretch for several weeks, MnDOT says.
The lane closures are to allow crews the space to conduct a J-turn intersection at Hwy. 14’s intersection with Dodge County Rd. 9. As of Sunday County Rd. 9 traffic will only be allowed to access Hwy. 14 by making right-hand turns.
County Rd. 9 motorsits seeking to make a left onto 14 or continue on the county road by crossing Hwy. 14 are being rerouted on the following detour:
- Vehicles to the north of Highway 14 will be detoured west on County Road 34 to southbound 200th Avenue/Airport Drive N to Highway 14.
- Vehicles to the south of Highway 14 will be detoured west on County Road 10 to County Road 25/Airport Drive S to Highway 14.
MnDOT says the new J-turn intersection is scheduled to be completed in June. Additional lane closures are planned on Hwy. 14 west of Rochester later on in the construction season.
Crews will resurface the highway between Byron and Kasson. A start date for the resurfacing work has not yet been announced, however MnDOT says its anticipated to be finished by August.
There’s also a multi-day detour planned for bridge improvements at the Hwy. 14/Hwy. 57 interchange in Kasson.
The dates of that detour and work have not yet been determined.
