Crews shut down the interstate in both directions last month.

During the closure, crews will install guardrail, install lighting and prepare for a change in traffic near the 4th Street Northwest bridge. There will also be grading work on the freeway while I-90 is closed.

The official detour route of eastbound I-90 traffic is Hwy. 105 south and east to Mower County Rd. 28 east to Highway 218 north. Westbound I-90 traffic will be detoured on the same route in the opposite order.

MnDOT says one more closure of I-90 in Austin is planned before the end of the year. No specific date is available, however officials plan to announce it in advance.

Officials are also reminding motorists that the 4th St. NW bridge remains closed. MnDOT says there have been reports of motorists driving through the work area, which they is, "extremely dangerous, and it could delay the opening of the bridge if damage occurs."

The 4th St. NW bridge is anticipated to open by Thanksgiving, weather permitting, MnDOT says.
