This is a story that's going to be tough to get through.

KCRG reports that 73-year-old Daniel Weichmann is accused of a litany of sexual abuse charges against his step-grandchildren. He is charged with one count of Sexual Abuse in the 3rd degree (class C Felony), two counts of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse (Aggravated Misdemeanor), one count of Indecent Contact with a Child (Aggravated Misdemeanor), and one count of Indecent Exposure (Serious Misdemeanor).

Criminal complaints detail a pattern of grooming these children for sexual abuse by talking with them about masturbation, puberty, and their genitals. Criminal complaints detail specific incidents like waking up one child to look down his shorts.

Disturbing reports say he also allegedly looked at a child’s genitals after the child had surgery with a scar in the groin area. It also describes touching himself and attempting to touch a teenage step-grandchild in a camper outside his law office in Hampton.

Police first took a report on Weichmann in October 2021 and due to the nature of abuse of several juveniles in multiple counties and Wiechmann’s past work as an attorney in Franklin County, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was asked to assist.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety's website says Weichmann is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond and a detainer from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office regarding warrants currently on file related to Polk County charges.

Little else is known about the nature of the abuse at this time. This is a developing story and we will keep you updated as more details are released.
