The Minnesota branch of First Independent Bank just shared a warning on their Facebook page. They shared this message on Monday (December 30th) ahead of the new year.

According to their urgent warning, scammers are targeting customers in the state and their digital banking accounts.

So how does this scam work? Customers get a text message with the following verbiage, along with a link:

First Independent Bank: Your account has been put on hold due to unusual activity, visit [smishing link] to regain Access.

Of course, you should never click any link that you receive via text message or email without verifying the sender first.

This link is a scam. According to banking staff, they will never send out a text message like this. In fact, they will only send one out if you have multi-factor authentication set up to get to your digital banking.
