Another Rochester Restaurant Is Closing… But a Local Favorite Is Coming Back
Well... that didn’t last long.
Just a few months after opening in the old Taco Jed spot on South Broadway, Yuma Fritas has announced it’s officially closing for good on Monday, May 11.
The good news is, the replacement is probably going to make a LOT of Rochester food fans very happy.

If you remember, Yuma Fritas opened right before Christmas and brought a pretty unique concept to town. They called it “Cuban-ish Street Food,” which basically meant a menu full of fritas piled with crispy fries, loaded plantains, batidos, ropa vieja, ceviche, and other flavorful stuff you don’t see everywhere around Rochester.
The restaurant came from the same group behind Hot Chip Burger Bar, Mr. Pizza North, and Boxcar Hippie, so there was definitely a lot of curiosity when it opened.
But now, less than five months later, the team says they’ve made the decision to shut it down and bring back something Rochester has apparently been craving.
In a post shared on Facebook, the restaurant wrote:
“We heard you loud and clear — Rochester wants PFC back in their lives… and honestly? We agree.”
Porch Fried Chicken is officially making a comeback in Rochester
Porch Fried Chicken apparently had a pretty loyal following before disappearing, and they "want to give the people what they want," Yuma Fritas said in their post.
The owners say Yuma isn’t necessarily gone forever, either. They hinted the concept may come back someday in a different location, calling this more of a “hasta luego” than a permanent goodbye.

So if you’ve been meaning to try Yuma Fritas and just kept saying “yeah, we should go there sometime,” Monday is your last chance before the switch to Porch Fried Chicken starts happening.
Speaking of chicken, did you hear that Popeyes has confirmed TWO locations will open in Rochester in the near future? Dunken has more about that here.
