Funeral Services Happening This Week for Lake Pepin Boating Accident Victims
Wabasha, MN (KROC-AM News)- Funeral services are happening this week for the three Wabasha residents who lost their lives in a boating accident on Lake Pepin.

The fatality occurred on the night of July 11 just offshore from the YMCA Camp on Deer Island in Pepin County, Wisconsin. Reports indicate they were riding on a pontoon that struck a barge. The investigation remains ongoing.
Three occupants survived the collision. First responders recovered the victims bodies the next day following an extensive search.

Law enforcement identified the victims last week as 37-year-old Ashley Monson, 52-year-old Manuel “Manolo” De Angel-Sola and 46-year-old Nicholas Loechler.
De Angel Solá and Loechler were members of the Wabasha Fire Department. Monson was the wife of Assistant Wabasha Fire Chief Cory Monson.
Funerals Happening Tuesday and Wednesday in Wabasha for Lake Pepin Boating Accident Victims
De Angel Solá is survived by his mother, five siblings, children and other relatives.
His obituary says he’ll be remembered for “his generous heart, unwavering kindness, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. Whether spending time on the water, golfing, playing pickleball, or enjoying the sport of the season, Manolo embraced life with enthusiasm and brought joy to those around him. He was respected and loved by everyone who knew him.”
Loechler had “ an immense passion for snowmobiling; therefore, he was a volunteer with the Wabasha Driftskippers. He loved making time for hunting and fishing (especially in Ely, MN), but ultimately his passion was for days spent on the water with his loved ones,” his obituary says.
He is survived by his wife, children, mother, siblings and other relatives.
Monson is survived by her husband, three children, parents and other relatives.
“She loved spending time on the water, watching the sunset, relaxing on the beach with her feet in the sand, golfing, and making memories with friends. More than anything, Ashley cherished her family,” her obituary says.
Visitation for Loechler and De Angel-Sola will be Monday afternoon and a funeral mass for the fallen firefighters will happen Tuesday morning in Wabasha.
Monson’s visitation happened Sunday night and her funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Wabasha.
Ways to Support the Families
All three families are requesting donations be made to the Wabasha Fire Department in lieu of flowers.
The Wabasha Fireman’s Relief Association says anyone wishing to support the families can mail or drop off cards or donations at the Wabasha Fire Department, located at 900 Hiawatha Dr. East Wabasha, MN 55981.
