Lake Superior Ice Creates Mesmerizing Video
Winter in Minnesota can sometimes be strikingly beautiful, as this mesmerizing video from the North Shore shows.
One of my favorite spots in Minnesota is along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Once you get a little north of Duluth along Highway-61, the scenery is just incredible. I've driven along the famous Highway-1 in California, from Malibu up the northern coast through Big Bear and Monterrey, and Minnesota's scenery along The Big Lake They Call Gitcheegumee is just as breathtaking.
And, though the shipping season is currently hibernating, I've always been amazed at the sheer size of some of the big ships that enter and leave the port of Duluth to head out on the open waters of Lake Superior. (Click HERE to check out a video of one of the biggest freighters out there as it slowly makes its way into the Duluth harbor a few years ago.) I'm guessing it's because I'm a fan of the show Deadliest Catch, which is all about crab fisherman on the 'vast Bering Sea' (as narrator Mike Rowe used to say.)
However, I don't need to see ships on the lake to find a video mesmerizing. This way-cool video was taken along the shore of Lake Superior outside Glensheen Mansion in Duluth on Friday. It shows the awesome power of the Lake as it pushes and moves ice along the shore. Click on the video below and behold Lake Superior's mesmerizing power!
