Tower, MN (MinnesotaNow)- A Twin Cities woman found unresponsive in a Minnesota lake was pronounced dead at a hospital on Wednesday.

That’s according to a news release issued by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
First responders were sent to an island on the lake for the water emergency shortly before 6 p.m. The woman’s family had already begun CPR.

The call for help came from Blueberry Island on western end of Lake Vermillion, where a woman was found unresponsive in the water.
Emergency responders were able to find the woman and bring her back to the mainland, according to the news release.
She was then transported to a hospital in Cook by ambulance. Despite life-saving measures at the scene and at the hospital, the woman died, the news release says.
Authorities identified the deceased woman as 80-year-old Marit Smaby-Nowlin of St. Paul. The news release says she was vacationing on the lake with her family.
