Lead Shot Prompts Beef Jerky Recall
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - State officials have issued a consumer advisory for a beef jerky product that is sold at a number of businesses in southeastern Minnesota.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture says consumers need to avoid eating Nick's Pepper Beef Jerky produced by produced by Nick’s Meats and Grocery in Hayward Minnesota because a customer recently found lead shot in the product. After receiving the complaint from the customer, the company contacted the stores that carry it and all of it has been removed from store shelves.
The pepper beef jerky is stamped with the lot number 134416 on the front of the package and the label includes a Minnesota market inspection with a number 921 in the lower left corner. There is also a sell-by date of 02/22/17 on the front of the package.
About 50 pounds of the beef jerky was produced and distributed to five businesses in Austin and Albert Lea:
Trails Travel Center, 2700 E. Main Street, Albert Lea
Hy-Vee, 2708 Bridge Avenue, Albert Lea
Hy-Vee Gas, Albert Lea
Jim’s Superfresh, 2101 4th Street NW, Austin
Ankeny’s, 1400 14th Street NW, Austin
