Slick Roads May Have Contributed to Fatal Crash Near Albert Lea

Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - The fast-moving storm system that swept across Minnesota last night and early today created difficult travel conditions and may have contributed to a fatal crash in the Albert Lea area.

The State Patrol says it involved the collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck on westbound I-90 just west of the Highway 13 interchange around 8 PM. Very little information has been released by the State Patrol, but it is known that the driver of the pickup was killed in the crash.

The name of the 54-year-old Buffalo Center Iowa man has not been released.

The driver of the truck was identified as 60-year-old Melissa Keiser of Enid Oklahoma. She was transported to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Albert Lea with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The State Patrol is reporting that there were at least 175 traffic crashes statewide between 5 PM yesterday and 6 AM today. 19 of the crashes resulted in injuries, including the fatality near Albert Lea and another serious injury crash.

There were also more than 100 reports of vehicles spinning out or off roadways along with three reports of jackknifed semi trucks.
