The Legal Eagle David Schulman was busy fielding calls Monday morning on KROC-AM during Rochester Today with Andy Brownell.

The program started off with an interesting call from a listener with a daughter in college. He was concerned that a lease for a shared off-campus apartment could leave him on the hook for all of the rent if the other tenants moved out. It's a common issue facing parents with college-age children.

The Legal Eagle was asked if it would be possible to amend the lease in a way to make sure the caller would only be responsible for his daughter's share of the cost. Here's the language David suggested, although he also noted the landlord could simply reject the change and refuse to lease the apartment.

"Under no conditions shall the guarantor, hereunder, be liable for more than (x-amount of dollars) per month."
