Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Seasonal factors contributed to an increase in the Rochester area’s unemployment rate during the first two months of this year.

The latest jobs data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows the jobless rate for Olmsted County rose almost a full percentage point in January and was steady at 3.7-percent last month. That is 7-tenths of a point below the rate from January and February of last year, when the area also experienced a nearly full percentage point increase in the unemployment rate from December of the previous year.

Olmsted County’s rate last month was tied with Winona County as the lowest in the region, while Fillmore County had the highest rate and experienced the largest increase from December. It’s jobless rate jumped nearly 2 percentage points to 5.8-percent.
