Seasonal factors helped push the unemployment rate in the Rochester area down to a level that hasn't been seen in over eight years.

The latest jobs data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows the jobless rate for Olmsted County fell a half point in August to 3.2-percent. The rate has not been that low since May of 2006.

The report also shows the number of people classified as unemployed dropped by nearly 500 last month to just over 2650, which is the lowest total since November 2007. That number is also down over 50-percent from the peak reached during the Great Recession in March 2009 when the state listed over 5700 Olmsted County residents as unemployed.

Across the region, every county reported lower unemployment rates in August and the highest rate was found in Freeborn County at 3.8-percent.
