Man Killed on Shoulder of Twin Cities Freeway
Oakdale, MN (KROC AM News) – A Minneapolis man was killed Sunday after being struck while outside his vehicle on a Twin Cities freeway.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 46-year-old Darryl Bell had stopped on the shoulder for some reason and was standing near the rear driver’s side door, which was open. The State Patrol says the driver of an approaching pickup truck drifted onto the shoulder and struck the parked car and Bell.
A woman believed to be his wife was inside the car and was not hurt.
The driver of the truck that struck the Bell vehicle was identified as 70-year-old Thomas Soller of Stillwater. His truck also collided with another vehicle before coming to a stop in a ditch. No other injuries were reported.
The wreck happened on I-694 in Oakdale around 10:30 AM in Oakdale. Traffic on the busy freeway was impacted for more than 3 hours.
