
Manhunt for Rural Minnesota Stabbing Suspect Ends in Twin Cities
Aitkin, MN (KROC-AM News)- The manhunt for the suspect in a rural Minnesota stabbing has ended.

Authorities say the stabbing, which resulted in the victim being airlifted to a hospital, occurred on Wednesday.
Law enforcement captured the suspect with a stolen vehicle in the Twin Cities, according to a news release issued by the Aitkin Police Department.

Aitkin, MN Stabbing Suspect Captured in Twin Cities, Victim Flown to Hospital With Life-Threatening Injuries
Police responded to the stabbing at a residence in the northwestern part of Aitkin. Officers learned the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Matthew Liimatainen of Aitkin, had fled the scene prior to officers arrival.
He escaped the town of just over 2,100 people in a stolen pick-up and was considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Later Wednesday afternoon, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle in White Bear Township and located Liimatainen shortly after the vehicle discovery.
Liimatainen was returned to Aitkin County and booked into the county’s jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, according to Aitkin County Jail records. His first court hearing has not yet been scheduled.
Police described the victim as a 41-year-old Aitkin woman and said she suffered life-threatening injuries that required her to be airlifted from an Aitkin area hospital to a Twin Cities hospital for further care.
Her name and an update on her condition have not been released as of Friday morning.
