Minnesota Teen's Injuries Suffered in Scooter Crash Deemed Fatal

Lakeville, MN (KROC-AM News)- Injuries suffered by a Minnesota teenager in a scooter crash earlier this week have now been deemed fatal.

That’s according to a GoFundMe page set up on behalf of the boy’s family. The crash happened around 3:15 Monday afternoon.

A news release issued by the Lakeville Police Department says officers responded to a vehicle versus motor scooter crash at an intersection in the Twin Cities suburb.

The motor scooter was heading north when it was struck in the intersection by a westbound vehicle, according to the preliminary crash investigation.

North and southbound traffic through the intersection is controlled by a stop sign and east and westbound traffic does not have traffic control at the intersection, police say.

The 14-year-old boy riding the scooter was taken to a hospital in Minneapolis with what were described as life-threatening injuries. The woman driving the vehicle was not hurt.

The GoFundMe page identifies the boy as Maxwell (Max) Robert Wilson. The fundraising page says, “Due to the extent of his brain injuries, he will not make it.”

Max is an organ donor and there is a hero walk planned at the hospital Tuesday afternoon to honor his decision to be an organ donor, the fundraiser states.

The page says, “ If you were one lucky enough to know Max, you know he lights up every room he walks into. Max loves sports, his family, his dogs, his friends, and adventures.”

As of Wednesday morning the fundraiser has received over $61,000 in donations. Its stated goal is to raise $75,000.
