Mayflys and ZipRail on Rochester Today

Once in a blue moon, Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell have the opportunity to spend an hour without a guest on Rochester Today, and Wednesday was one of those rare days.

The hour went by fast as Tracy and Andy talked about a wide range of topics, including the proposal to link Rochester to the Twin Cities with a high-speed passenger rail service. The so-called Zip Rail plan is the subject of a series of public meetings hosted by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The show on KROC-AM also cover the recent massive mayfly hatching that occurred along the Mississippi River near La Crosse.  Tracy has never witnessed a mayfly hatching, but Andy has seen a couple, and his daughter found herself cleaning up the mess left by the most recent hatching when she reported for work the following morning in the La Crosse area.
