Mayo Clinic Revenue Tops $5.5 Billion in Q1 2026

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Mayo Clinic is reporting strong financial results for the first three months of this year.

Mayo Clinic Releases First Quarter Financial Report

A required federal filing with the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board shows Mayo Clinic's net operating income for the first quarter of 2026 rose to $398 million. The figure, which would be the equivalent of profit for a business, was up $39 million, or nearly 11%, compared to the first quarter of 2025. The report indicates Mayo Clinic's operating income represents a margin of 7.2%.

Revenue Growth Fueled by Medical Services

Mayo Clinic reported its revenues increased approximately 8.1% from last year. The overall total was more than $5.5 billion, which is $416 million above the revenue total from January through March 2025. Most of that revenue came from providing medical services, which increased from about $4.3 billion last year to nearly $4.7 billion this year.

Mayo Clinic Salary and Benefit Costs Up 6%

The federal filing shows Mayo Clinic's expenses rose about 7.9% from the first quarter of last year and totaled just under $5.11 billion. Expenses during the first three months of last year totaled about $4.73 billion. Mayo Clinic also reported that expenses tied to salaries and benefits rose by just under 6% from last year to about $2.83 billion.

Investment Losses Impact Nonoperating Results

Mayo Clinic did report a nonoperating loss in the first quarter. The filing indicates the healthcare giant experienced a $181 million loss in investment returns, while the overall nonoperating loss was put at $87 million. Last year, Mayo Clinic reported a gain of $26 million in that category.

The unaudited report was filed with the online Electronic Municipal Market Access site, a service of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board. The report is required because of municipal bonds sold by Mayo to finance various economic development projects.
