Mayo Clinic Offers Employees ‘Day of Thanks’ on Nov. 26

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The day after Thanksgiving is often not very busy but has long been treated as a regular workday for Mayo Clinic employees, but that will not be the case this year.
The Rochester-based healthcare provider has announced it is closing most of its outpatient practices and will be suspending scheduled surgeries on November 26th this year. Mayo Clinic President and CEO Dr. Gianrico Farrugia says it will be a "day of thanks" for Mayo Clinic employees.
"We recognize that the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic has taken an emotional and physical toll on staff. In gratitude for their dedication throughout this year, Mayo Clinic is closing most of its U.S. outpatient practices and suspending scheduled surgeries on Nov. 26 to offer staff a day of thanks for all the hard work they've done in support of our patients during the pandemic."
His statement goes on to say the decision was not made lightly and is intended to thank the staff and give them time to recharge themselves. It also states that patients with previously scheduled appointments in areas that will be closed the day after Thanksgiving will be contacted to reschedule those appointments.
