Mayo Clinic Red Kettle Pledge Brings in ‘Unprecedented’ Donations
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It was the first time Mayo Clinic pledged to match all donations to the Rochester Salvation Army’s Red Kettle drive and it turned out to be a smashing success.
Mayo reported Monday it will match the $171,000 in donations that were made Dec. 19 and 20. That works out to more than $3500 per hour. Combined with the Mayo pledge, it also means the total from the two-day effort was $341,000 - a third of the 2019 Red Kettle goal.
"The Salvation Army is beyond grateful to Mayo Clinic for matching our community's unbelievable generosity during the Red Kettle Christmas Campaign," says Maj. Robert Mueller, corps officer of The Salvation Army. "The two-day kettle total of $170,547.41 is unprecedented and can be attributed to Mayo Clinic's unlimited match pledge. These matching funds will be of enormous support as we work to meet the growing needs in our community, from preventing homelessness to providing health care and the full spectrum of emergency social services."
The Rochester Salvation Army provides safety net services to the local community, including medical and dental care to underinsured and uninsured residents, shelter, and assistance for basic needs.
