Preston, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Minnesota Department of Health has identified another Measles case in southeast Minnesota.

That’s according to Fillmore County Public Health, which says the case was identified by the Minnesota Department of Health Laboratory on Wednesday.

Measles Case Confirmed in Unvaccinated Adult in Fillmore County

Fillmore County health officials say the case was the result of a domestic transmission into an unvaccinated adult. 

A news release says health officials are working to identify people who were exposed to the infected person and any additional people who may be showing measles symptoms. 

Health officials say symptoms of the diseases, which is described as highly contagious and spreads through the air when people have to breath or cough, includes high fever (may be more than 104 ̊F), cough, runny nose, red and/or watery eyes, and a rash. 

Anyone displaying those symptoms is asked to stay home and avoid visitors until they speak with a doctor. 

25 Cases Confirmed in Minnesota

The Fillmore County case marks the 25th Measles case reported in Minnesota in the past year, according to the US Disease Tracker.  Three cases in that time span have been reported in Olmsted County. 

Health officials say the only safe way to prevent measles is to obtain an MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccination. 

They’re also encouraging Fillmore County residents to report symptoms to their health care provider or their local health department, seek testing if symptoms appear, check vaccination status and obtain vaccination as needed and to obtain medical care early symptoms develop.
