The Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) is bringing back a really cool and unique event again this year. When we get past the holidays, it can be hard to get excited to do anything in our cold winters, but this is a great event to get you out of the house.

MIA is bringing back their ice sculptures. They're calling it Minneapolis Institute of Ice... get it?

Ice Sculptures at the Minneapolis Institute of Art

Just outside of MIA in Target Park, there will be tons of ice sculptures that are all carved to look like some of the art currently on display inside MIA. It's quite impressive!

Admission to check out these ice sculptures is free, as is admission into MIA itself. So you can check out the ice sculptures first and then head inside to warm up and see the art that inspired the sculptures outside.

When the Ice Sculptures Will be Open at the Minneapolis Institute of Art

It looks like the sculptures will be ready to be viewed starting January 8th, 2026. After that, the sculptures will be around until whenever they melt.

The ice sculptures will be able to be visited during regular museum hours, which are Tuesday and Wednesday 10 AM - 5 PM, Thursday 10 AM - 9 PM, and again Friday through Sunday 10 AM - 5 PM.

This would be perfect to take the kids to. I remember going to MIA for field trips back in the day, so it's a great spot to take the kids and teach them about art and its impacts in the world.

MIA is also just a cool place for anyone to visit. I haven't been in many years, and with the ice sculptures, I feel like it's a great excuse to go back!
