Minnesota DNR Will Stop Issuing Harvest Tags For Hunting
The Minnesota DNR is making some changes, and soon those durable hunting tags you use when you harvest a game animal will be going away, eventually. It's part of the DNR adapting to meet changes in technology.
New Electronic Licensing System - Date TBD
The Minnesota DNR had planned to launch a new Electronic Licensing System in March, but the date was pushed back due to more development and testing of the system. Currently, nothing has changed, and you can still purchase licenses online or from a license agent.

The new ELS system, once launched, will allow hunters or anglers to purchase their license online through a new app. Hunters will be able to show their license digitally from the app to conservation officers. You'll be able to access your license even when offline. That means you won't have to bring your license with you. For people who still want a paper license, you can have an 8 X 11 license printed.

No More Durable Hunting Tags
Once the new system is launched, you won't be issued a tag anymore. You can register online through the app. If you're out of cell service, you can register once you regain service.
You can learn more about the Electronic Licensing System and get updates for when it will be launched on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources webpage.
No More ATV Or Snowmobile Stickers
Once the new system is launched, the DNR will no longer issue durable trail stickers for recreational vehicles or snowmobiles. Instead, you'll have your trail pass available in the app. This does not include watercraft; those stickers are staying.
