Minnesota Man Charged for Murder of His Cousin
Newport, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities in Washington County have made an arrest in connection with the discovery of a body at a Transit Center about eight miles south of St. Paul late Monday morning.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a medical call at the Newport Transit Center around 11:30 a.m. Responding deputies found the body of a man slumped over behind the wheel of an SUV.
Later in the day Monday, investigators arrested 37-year-old Sylvester Jones at a home. Jones is the cousin of the victim, who was identified as 38-year-old Terrell McIntyre.
An autopsy determined McIntyre died from being shot multiple times. A witness told authorities they saw a man leave the area of the transit center about 20 minutes before law enforcement responded to the scene. Investigators then tracked Jones’s movements, and executed a search warrant at a residence near the transit center with the assistance of a SWAT Team.
Jones was arrested without incident and admitted to being involved in his cousin’s death. Law enforcement reported recovering a gun at the scene of Jones’s arrest.
Jones is set to appear in Washington County Court on a charge of second-degree murder. He’s being held in the Washington County jail.
