Minnesota Man Gets Lengthy Prison Sentence for Child Porn Conviction

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Minnesota man’s second child sex crime-related offense has landed him in federal prison.

That’s according to a news release issued on Tuesday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Minnesota. The prison sentence will be followed by a lifetime of supervised release. 

A federal jury convicted 56-year-old Michael Francis Hamer of Minneapolis of one count of receipt of child pornography, one count of distribution of child pornography, and two counts of access with intent to view child pornography last December. 

A video of the material Hamer was accused of obtaining was played during the court proceeding. Federal court document alleged he knowingly sought, obtained, viewed and distributed child pornography online.

He was also accused of using Gmail and Facebook to message identified victims of child sexual abuse, some as young as 11 years old, to request and distribute images and videos depicting minors involved in sexual acts, the news release says.

Hamer had previously admitted to possession of child pornography in a Minnesota case in 2012. He was originally charged with solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct in Minnesota state court.

On Wednesday a federal judge sentenced Hamer to 16 years in prison. During the sentencing hearing the judge described Hamer’s actions as “relentless behavior,” and noted the long term damage that victims of child sexual abuse suffer.
