Minnesota Man Gets Prison Sentence For Removing Bear’s Head
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota man will spend over a year in federal prison for decapitating a 700 pound black bear.
41-year-old Brett Stimac of Brainerd was sentenced Wednesday to 15 months in prison and was fined $9500. He was accused of wildlife trafficking and trespassing on Indian Land in connection with the incident in September 2019.
According to court documents, Stimac was accused of entering the Red Lake Indian Reservation for the purposes of hunting and killing the black bear using a compound bow. The charges allege he returned the following day and used a saw to remove the bear's head, which he brought to a taxidermist to be made into a trophy. His actions attracted the attention of law enforcement officials after Stimac posted photos of himself posing with the bear's carcass on social media.
