Crosby, MN (KROC-AM News) - A procession of law enforcement and emergency vehicles from across Minnesota participated in a procession Thursday evening that accompanied the hearse transporting the body of a central Minnesota paramedic who died in the line of duty Wednesday night.

Officials in Mille Lacs County say 47-year-old Toby Rowan, who served as a paramedic for the Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia, collapsed after he and other emergency responders were called to the scene of a medical emergency. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and both Rowan and the original patient died.

A Facebook post by the Cuyana Regional Medical Center in Crosby indicates he also worked for the healthcare provider, where his wife is employed as a nurse.

“This is hard for all of us,” said Emergency Medical Services Director Bob McLaughlin. “We are grateful that CRMC is truly a family.”

The Facebook post says Rowan is survived by his parents, his wife, and four adult children, and stepchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.
